Job Description for the Incline Athletic Organization (IAO) Coach
This person must possess a desire to serve the community by serving the children of this community and have a good understanding of needs and challenges facing school-aged children. The Coach must apply and pass standard reference and criminal background checks.
The Coach must be enthusiastic and energetic in his/her activities and interactions with others.
The Coach reports to the Executive Director (ED) and is responsible for teaching each child participant knowledge about health, exercise, safe stretching, safety, good behavior, conflict solutions, discipline and specific athletic or recreational skills that has been assigned to the Coach to teach. The Coach must do this while creating a fun and exciting environment.
The Coach will prioritize the safety of all children put in the Coaches care for the hours defined and beyond as necessary. The Coach is always aware that the Coach is a role model to children and the Coach must make sure that what the children experience is always as positive as possible.
The Coach is responsible for understanding what activities local students will embrace and the Coach must strive to stay ahead of what activities children will enjoy and learn from.
The Coach is responsible for the care and longevity of IAO equipment and will teach equipment care, maintenance and safely. When equipment is too worn or unsafe, or updated equipment is required, the Coach must make the ED aware of each need.
The Coach is a key part of the goals of IAO, including the goal to raise needed funding. The Coach will help IAO find the resources so these and more activities can be provided with the goal of getting 100% of local kids involved in at least one activity.
The Coach is encouraged to cross-train in other activities to broaden coaching abilities and the Coach is encouraged to invite others to cross-train in the Coaches area of specialization.
The Coach will foster cooperation, to the greatest extent, with all other local and non-local entities that also target the same student population. The Coach will not disparage any other group or activity in the community, regardless of the Coach’s own personal opinion. IAO must be seen as cooperative and non-competitive.
The Coach must be a good communicator with peers, children, parents and the community. IAO has become advanced in the use of the Internet to facilitate good communication. It is required that the Coach should have access to the Internet on a daily basis, when in-town and carry a mobile phone while coaching so they can be reached or reach others during emergencies.
The Coach position is as a volunteer or independent contractor subject to a signed Services Agreement. IAO sponsorship funding has been set aside with the intent that contractors receive agreed compensation for a period of five months starting on November 2004. For the contract to be renewed, the Coach must perform to the above job description and IAO must successfully accomplish fund-raising that supports on-going compensation for this contract position.
